01 / Our team

The people
behind the
machine.

Students. Builders. Teammates.

Our story starts with students working to keep robotics going at Julia R. Masterman in Philadelphia—and create a path from middle school into high school.

That effort grew into the Bluesteel Dragons: a team where students turn curiosity into practical skills, take responsibility for a real machine, and build something together.

The people behind the machine / 2026
  1. 01

    Keep it going.

Make space for students to discover robotics and keep learning.

  2. 02

    Build a high-school team.

Bring engineering, creativity, and organization into one shared project.

  3. 03

    Take the field.

Put that work to the test in our 2026 FIRST Robotics Competition rookie season.

Find your part

One team.
Seven ways to contribute.

Some of us make the parts. Some make them move. Others make sure the whole team can keep going.

From an idea to a working machine.

Sketch a mechanism. Model it in CAD. Turn it into something you can hold, assemble, test, and improve. Mechanical is where the robot takes shape.

  • CAD & design
  • Fabrication
  • Assembly

Make every connection count.

Build the electrical systems that bring the robot to life. Route wires, connect components, and trace a problem until the whole machine works together.

  • Wiring
  • Electronics
  • Troubleshooting

Give the machine its next move.

Turn a game plan into robot behavior. Write code, test controls, and help the robot make the right move when the match begins.

Finance

Plan budgets, explore grants, and organize the fundraising that makes a season possible.

Arts

Give the Dragons an identity through illustration, design, and the details that make a team feel like ours.

Media

Document the work through photography, video, and stories from the workshop and the field.

Outreach

Connect with other teams and help more students discover what they can build.

02 / Our robot · 2026 REBUILT

Meet
Angry Dragon.

Our first season’s machine. Every bolt, wire, and line of code has a team behind it.

  1. Built to compete in REBUILT. Our first machine turned months of ideas into real match experience.

  2. Every match tested our decisions. We learned, adjusted, and kept building—from districts to the District Championship.

  3. Angry Dragon reached a level 2 ascent. One more challenge, taken on by the whole team.

03 / Community

We build better together.

Learning goes both ways.

We learn from each other through teamwork, and from mentors who support and challenge us. Explaining an idea, listening to someone else's approach, and working through a problem are part of the job.

Sometimes, that team reaches beyond our own workshop. Other teams have shared their time, tools, and experience to help us get started.

MOUNT OLIVE

A robot loan.
A place to begin.

Mount Olive lent us Beta 1 for Ramp Riot. Their support helped us take our first steps onto the field.

On October 18, 2025, a borrowed machine became a chance to learn how a competition works—from a repair before the first qualification match to experienced students coaching new drivers.

CENTRAL & ROBOLANCERS

Shared tools.
Shared knowledge.

A visit to Central introduced new ideas and practical support for our growing team.

On November 14, 2025, we visited Central and the RoboLancers. We came away with two borrowed XRP kits and a cart—resources that could help us learn and prepare for the work ahead.

LOOKING AHEAD

Pass it forward.

Our aim: keep building a robotics pathway for younger students.

A FUTURE PLAN

Philly STEM Initiate

An early idea for future STEM outreach.

We want to share what we're learning and create more opportunities for students to try robotics. This is a future plan, with its activities still being developed.
